Traditional Thai massage: the way to relaxation and harmony

Introduction to traditional Thai massage

Traditional Thai massage originates from the Indian subcontinent and its origin is connected with the life of Buddha. It was founded by Shivago Komarpai, a physician and friend of the Buddha, more than 2500 years ago. This technique combines acupressure, yoga and stretching to bring about overall balance and relaxation.

What does a traditional Thai massage involve?

This technique consists of releasing blocked energy, relieving mental and physical stress and deep relaxation. Gentle stretching reduces muscle stiffness, increases vitality and induces a state of calm, so that after the massage you feel as if you have been reborn.

How does a traditional Thai massage work?

Traditional Thai massage begins in a comfortable, relaxed position on the back, with the client dressed in loose and comfortable clothing. The massage is usually performed on a massage table, but can also be done on a mattress by arrangement with the reception. The therapist uses rhythmic movements to stimulate the feet and gradually release the energy pathways. This restores the flow of energy and brings deep relaxation.

Initial Consultation

Please inform the reception of your preferences and problem areas on your body at the check-in. Reception will then assess whether this massage is suitable for you or recommend another option.

️️ Preparing and starting the massage

The therapist will welcome you and guide you to the massage room. Most of the time, she already knows all the details, as communication takes place through our reception, who will pass on all the necessary information to the therapist. This way, the therapist will not distract you before the massage starts and will not shorten the massage time, allowing you to fully concentrate on all the necessary techniques and procedures of the massage.

In a traditional Thai massage, the therapist will begin with light stretching and pressure to relax the muscles and prepare the body for a deeper massage. The massage usually starts at the feet and progresses upwards.

Massage techniques, pressure points and acupressure.

The therapist applies pressure using the thumbs, hands, elbows, knees and feet to specific points on the body. The pressure is rhythmic and targets the body’s energy pathways, known as the “Sen Lines”.

Stretching and yoga

The therapist performs various stretching techniques that resemble passive yoga. The client is guided into various positions that relax the muscles and increase flexibility.

Deep tissue massage

The therapist focuses on specific problem areas using deeper pressure and massage techniques. This may include kneading and circular movements.

Závěr massage and relaxation

The therapist gradually reduces the intensity of the pressure and performs gentler techniques to calm the body. Finally, a relaxation technique such as light stroking can be used.

Serving Tea

After the massage, the client is offered a cup of soothing tea, which promotes relaxation and hydration of the body.

The whole process of Thai massage usually lasts 60 to 120 minutes, during which the emphasis is on relaxing muscle tension, improving flexibility and increasing the overall feeling of well-being.

Recommendations

We recommend booking this massage for 90-120 minutes. This will give the therapist plenty of time for all the massage techniques and stretches used in this massage. We know from experience that longer treatment times are necessary to achieve maximum effect and full relaxation. Thank you for your understanding.

Consultation on the strength and intensity of the massage

Consult our therapists for the strength and intensity of the massage. To achieve the desired result and meet your expectations. Our therapists have years of experience and can focus on the specific points that are bothering you. Each of our massages is based on best practices that we modify based on feedback from our customers.

Traditional Thai massage can be an intense experience. Some techniques involve deep stretching, which may cause temporary discomfort. If you are new to massage or are concerned about higher intensity, it is always a good idea to consult your options with our receptionist who is trained to advise you.

For those who are just starting with this massage, we can recommend our Filipino massage, or Thai oil massagewhich combines both traditional Thai massage and relaxing oil massage.

What clothes to wear for a traditional Thai massage?

For regular visits to Thai massage, we recommend wearing comfortable and loose clothing, such as the kind you wear for yoga. Unlike oil massages where the client is only in their underwear, in a Thai massage the client is fully clothed. Inappropriate clothing is, for example, jeans.

We do offer the option of hiring clothing during your first visit, but we ask that you make this request either online on the booking form or by phone so that reception is aware.

When not to go for a Thai massage?

Thai massage is not recommended during pregnancy and menstruation. In these cases, we offer our wonderful aroma massage with various aromatherapy oils to help relieve pain and allow for relaxation.

Thai massage is not suitable in the following situations:

  • Acute infections or inflammations
  • Severe heart disease
  • Recent surgeries
  • Serious skin problems
  • Osteoporosis

For more serious illnesses or health complications, it is always advisable to consult a doctor before booking a massage.

Principles and philosophy of traditional Thai massage

This massage is based on the Buddhist principle of “metta” or the expression of kindness, which is the basis for effective healing of body, mind and soul. This technique uses the Indian yoga stretching technique called “Ayurveda” and energy healing principles to stabilize the flow of energy in the body.

What are the characteristics of traditional Thai massage?

It is a path to relaxation and harmony that combines elements of yoga and massage techniques to achieve deep relaxation. We have been bringing you the highest quality of this massage for several years now, following traditional practices while adapting it to suit a wide range of our customers. We hope that you will enjoy this traditional Thai massage and come back to us regularly. As with any health massage, regularity is the key to achieving its relaxing effects.
