Why back and neck massage?
Back pain is literally a “disease of civilization” today. We sit, we stress, we breathe poorly, our head is constantly forward from constantly looking at our cell phones — and the body reacts with pain. Back and neck massage is therefore one of the most common problems clients visit Eden’s Garden for.
Helps with:
- lower back pain,
- stiff trapezius muscles,
- blockages between the shoulder blades,
- tension from working at the computer,
- stress and overload of the nervous system,
- limited range of head movement.
“Nine out of ten clients don’t just have physical tension. It’s a combination of stress, poor breathing, and a sedentary life.”
– Eden’s Garden therapists
What causes back and neck pain (and how massage helps)
Tension in the back never arises “just like that.” It is a combination of physical and psychological factors that cause our overall discomfort. Our mind is an incredibly powerful tool that can very easily reflect on the physical side. It is therefore not good to overlook and neglect this connection; massage is a great way to reconnect with your mind through your body.
The most common causes of back and neck pain:
- long hours sitting at the PC,
- stress and shallow breathing,
- one-sided load (telephone, computer, or even a child that we carry constantly on one arm),
- weakened core,
- lack of movement,
- poor head posture.
Back and neck massage helps by:
- relieving overloaded muscles,
- improving blood circulation,
- releasing fascial tension,
- supporting proper breathing,
- calming the nervous system,
- removing blockages that prevent free movement.
How a back and neck massage works at Eden’s Garden
Back and neck massage at Eden’s Garden does not have a universal procedure. Each body reacts differently and each pain has a different origin – from long hours sitting at the computer to stress to sports overload. That’s why the whole visit starts with listening.
🌿 Initial consultation
Even before the massage itself, the therapist briefly asks what is really bothering your body. She is interested in where exactly you feel the pain, whether it is an acute or long-term problem, what your typical day looks like (sedentary work, physical strain, sports) and what pressure is comfortable for you. Stress also plays a big role – it is very often stored in the neck and upper back area.
Based on this consultation, the therapist will choose the right combination of techniques – sometimes a gentle relaxation massage is more suitable, other times deep work or their sensitive combination.
🌿 Release of surface layers
The massage begins with slow, smooth strokes that prepare the body for deeper work. The therapist focuses primarily on the trapezius muscles, neck, shoulder blade area and interscapular muscles, often also on the lumbar spine, which is closely related to the upper back.
The warmth of the palms and the calm pace help the muscles gradually soften and succumb to relaxation. The body thus moves from defensive tension to a state where it is possible to work effectively and without unnecessary pain.
🌿 Deep work – targeted release of overloaded areas
The most effective part of the entire back and neck massage comes when the muscles release. The therapist focuses on specific overloaded areas – muscle knots, stiff fibers around the shoulder blades and areas along the spine.
She uses a combination of palms, forearms and elbows themselves, always with feeling and pressure control. It also includes gentle stretching of the neck and release of deeper structures that a regular massage often does not reach. The goal is not pain, but the gradual dissolution of tension that has been accumulating in the body for weeks or even months.
“When the shoulder blades are released, the breath is also released. And half the stress often goes away with the breath.”
– Eden’s Garden therapists
🌿 Connection with breath and the nervous system
Back and neck pain is also very often related to shallow, rapid breathing. Therefore, during the massage, the therapist works in the rhythm of your breath and gently guides you to it. This releases the areas that react most sensitively to stress – the chest, cervical spine and upper trapezius muscles. Stress and psychological stress cause us to withdraw into ourselves, our shoulders drop forward and our chest collapses.
In this phase, the massage moves from a purely physical level to the level of the nervous system. The body begins to truly regenerate.
🌿 Final relaxation of the head and neck
The end of the massage belongs to gentle work with the head, neck and often also the jaws, which are unconsciously overloaded during stress – teeth clenching. The therapist releases the neck area, temples and scalp. This part is often the strongest for clients – the body literally “restarts” after it.
The massage is followed by a short rest and a cup of warm tea so that the effects can safely subside.
🌿 Effects of back and neck massage
After a back and neck massage, clients most often describe a feeling of lightness, a greater range of head movement and significant relief in the area between the shoulder blades. Tension headaches and pressure in the neck often subside as well.
Physiological effects of massage:
- reduction of muscle tension in the back and neck area,
- better blood circulation to the spine and surrounding muscles,
- improved mobility of the shoulders and cervical spine,
- prevention of headaches and migraines,
- deep calming of the nervous system.
Back and neck massage at Eden’s Garden is therefore not only a relief from pain, but an effective prevention against its return.
