Why is aroma massage so popular?
Aroma massage is one of the gentlest and most effective massage techniques.
It combines two effective methods:
- Touch, which relaxes muscles and the nervous system.
- Scents, which act directly on the limbic system — the center of emotions, stress, and sleep.
At Eden’s Garden, therapists use 100% natural oils, which are selected according to your goal:
- to loosen the back
- to calm the mind
- to improve sleep
- to reduce stress
- to energize
- to support breathing
“When touch and scent combine, the body reacts twice as fast.”
– Eden’s Garden therapists
What is aroma massage?
Aroma massage is a gentle relaxing massage that uses a blend of essential oils. These oils penetrate the skin and affect the nervous system.
Compared to a classic relaxation massage, aroma massage has:
- Slower pace,
- longer strokes,
- greater focus on breathing,
- aromatherapeutic effects,
- a more pronounced, soothing effect on the psyche.
It is especially suitable for women and men who need to stop, slow down and release stress tension.
How aroma massage works at Eden’s Garden
🌿 Initial consultation
We will ask about your wishes, the goal you want to achieve, for example, more energy / less stress / better sleep…). The therapist will also be interested in sensitivity to scents, any back, lower back or neck pain, and the mood you want to change.
🌿 Aroma oil selection
Based on the information she obtains about your condition and mood, the therapist will recommend an oil to use for your massage.
Guide to the most common oils we use:
🌙 Lavender — excellent effects on sleep, anxiety and tension.
- calms the nervous system
- helps with insomnia
- reduces stress
- harmonizes breathing
🍊 Citrus (orange, tangerine, grapefruit) — characterized by effects on energy and mood.
- refreshes the mind
- promotes positive emotions
- improves concentration
- ideal for fatigue
🌿 Eucalyptus — known for its effects on breathing and chest congestion.
- opens airways
- relieves chest and shoulder blades
- helps with headaches
🌹 Rose — used primarily for its effects on emotional tension.
- harmonizes the psyche
- supports feminine energy
- brings a feeling of gentleness and security
🌳 Sandalwood — a specific, distinctive scent that has significant effects on stress and overwhelm.
- grounds
- calms the mind
- suppresses the nervous system
Therapists always choose oils to make the result as effective as possible. Not all oils are suitable to combine.
🌿 The massage itself – a smooth ritual that slows down the whole body
Aroma massage begins with long, smooth strokes along the spine. The therapist uses warm oil and a slow rhythm, which gradually “turns off” tension in the superficial and deeper muscle layers. The spine is the main energy line of the body, and therefore the first touches always focus here, so it is a gentle signal to the body that it can release, slow down and start to regenerate.
The massage then moves to the neck and trapezius area. This is where the most stress and emotional tension is stored, especially in people who work at a computer or often think into the night. The therapist works slowly, in the rhythm of your breath, and gradually releases every knot and stiff spot so that the breath can deepen and the nervous system can begin to switch to a resting mode.
This is followed by relaxation of the shoulders and arms. This part is surprisingly intense, but not painful, many clients only realize during the massage how much tension they carry in their forearms, palms or shoulders. The scent of the oil spreads most around the body at this moment and promotes a feeling of lightness.
Aroma massage continues with gentle work on the legs, where the therapist uses long, harmonious strokes that promote lymphatic flow and relieve the feeling of heavy legs. The legs are often the first part of the body to respond with deep relaxation, and the body begins to “release” from the bottom up.
The conclusion belongs to deep relaxation of the head and temple area. Head massage has a strong effect on the nervous system, a large proportion of clients fall asleep at this stage, because the combination of warm oil, smooth touch and scent creates a feeling as if the head has disconnected from the overload of the whole day.
The whole massage is carried out in the rhythm of the breath. The therapist monitors it and adjusts the pace and intensity to it, thanks to which the body naturally transitions into a state of deep parasympathetic rest.
“Clients usually fall asleep during the last third of the massage.”
– Eden’s Garden therapists
The final ritual – a moment when the body starts working
After the massage, the therapist does not interrupt the atmosphere with a sudden departure. With a slow, conscious touch, she finishes the last strokes, gently covers the body with a towel and leaves you for a few minutes in a quiet, warm space so that the massage can “resonate”.
This moment is often the deepest part of the whole ritual. The body relaxes for several minutes after the touch stops:
- The oils continue to absorb,
- the breath becomes slower and more regular,
- muscles and the nervous system transition into a regenerative phase,
- the mind is calm, sometimes almost meditative.
The therapist will then offer you a cup of warm herbal tea, which replenishes hydration and promotes energetic calming. The scent of the tea often connects with the aroma oil and creates an “afterglow” of the ritual, which gently affects the body and mind for several hours.
You can stay sitting or lying down as long as you want — there is no rush. This final phase helps to ensure that the effect of the massage is not only immediate, but long-lasting.
“The greatest part of the relaxation often comes after the massage is over.”
– Eden’s Garden therapists
Effects of aroma massage – what happens to the body and mind
Aroma massage works on three levels at the same time: on the body, mind and energy flow.
And that is what makes it one of the most complex massage techniques.
Physiological (bodily) effects
Thanks to slow strokes and natural aroma oils, the body starts to react within the first few minutes and thus:
- Releases muscle tension in the neck, back and chest without causing pain.
- Improves blood circulation, which brings a greater feeling of warmth and lightness.
- Reduces the level of stress hormones and releases tense fascial layers.
- Deepens breathing and opens the chest.
- Improves sleep quality because the body transitions into a regenerative mode.
After the massage, the body reacts similarly to after several hours of sleep or meditation — with a feeling of calm, warmth and relaxation.
Psychological effects
Aroma massage is one of the fastest ways to “turn off the head”. It acts on the limbic system, the center of emotions, where stress, anxiety and memory are processed.
That is why many clients say that after the massage they have:
- A clearer head,
- less tension in the jaw and temples,
- released emotions that have been suppressed for a long time,
- less information overload,
- calm that they feel for several hours after the massage.
Aroma massage is ideal for anyone who “thinks even in their sleep” or feels long-term
under pressure.
Energetic effects
Aroma massage also works with the subtle energy of the body.
Scent, warmth and conscious touch create a harmonizing effect, thanks to which:
- The flow of energy is balanced,
- the body tunes in with the breath,
- old memory patterns are washed away,
- deep inner balance is induced.
Many clients describe that they feel “inner silence” after the massage. This is a state that we rarely get to in a normal day.
When is aroma massage an ideal choice?
We recommend aroma massage especially when:
- You are under long-term stress,
- you have trouble sleeping,
- your neck and upper back hurt,
- you need to slow down and stop the carousel of thoughts,
- you want emotional release and regain lightness,
- you are going through a hormonal fluctuation,
- you are going through a difficult period and need to be “supported”.
The best massage for moments when the body calls for gentle care, and when the head needs space to breathe.
How often to go for an aroma massage
In order for the effects of aroma massage to have a real effect, we recommend it:
For long-term stress
1× a week, for at least 3–4 weeks
For mental stability and emotional balance
1× every 14 days
As a prevention of tension and regeneration
1× a month
A combination that enhances the effects
Aroma massage works beautifully as a complement to:
- relaxation massage,
- Thai oil massage,
- Filipino hilot massage (if you also need deeper relaxation).
This will give your body a perfect balance between gentleness, regeneration and physical relaxation.
When to skip aroma massage
As with other massages, definitely skip it in cases where you are suffering from one of these problems:
- Fever,
- infection
- active inflammation
- heart failure
- thrombosis
- after acute operations without a doctor’s permission
- during serious oncological treatment (consultation required).
